India finished second in the world by launching electronic personal license (EPL). This digital license will change the traditional physical license of pilots and will be safely accessible through EGCA mobile application, which has been implemented under “Digital India” and “Ease of Doing Business” initiatives.
The EPL is introduced under the Amendment 178 of the ICAO, which encourages member countries to adopt electronic licenses. India has taken a big step by implementing it.
The minister said, “Given the rapid growing of India’s aviation sector, we are estimating the need of 20,000 pilots in the future.” Real-time access from EPL to pilots’ certificates will ensure, which will increase their employment and security.”
Earlier, DGCA used to issue licenses to pilots as smart cards, and now the requirement of the EPL requirement would be less, making the licensing process more effective and better for the environment.
With EPL, India has come into stronger position in global aviation innovation.
