On July 28, a significant seminar was organized at Central Hospital, North Central Railway, Prayagraj, in celebration of World Hepatitis Day. The theme for 2024, “It’s Time for Action,” set the tone for the event. Dr. Rohit Kumar provided an in-depth overview of the global and local impacts of viral hepatitis. The seminar, under the distinguished leadership of Medical Director Dr. S.K. Handu, Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. S.P. Sharma, Dr. Kalpana Mishra, ACHD (Administration), and Dr. Reena Agarwal, ACMS/PRYJ, successfully heightened understanding and awareness of hepatitis. Their guidance helped create a program that not only informed but also inspired all attendees, showcasing their deep commitment to advancing public health.
Dr. Kumar emphasized the crucial functions of the liver and the various sources of hepatitis, such as viruses and alcohol, identifying the five main types: A, B, C, D, and E. He highlighted the challenges associated with hepatitis B and C in India and stressed the goals of the National Viral Hepatitis Control Program aimed at eliminating the disease by 2030.
Key staff members like Raj Kumar, Chief Pharmacist; Chief Matron Modesta; Matrons Sita and Sumanti; and Health Educator Shravan played an essential role in ensuring the seminar’s smooth execution. The program concluded with a powerful call to action by Dr. Kumar, advocating for collective efforts to prevent new infections, ensure early diagnosis, and provide effective treatments. The seminar underscored the importance of public education and scientific progress, reinforcing the ongoing efforts towards a hepatitis-free future.
