Ashok Kumar Verma, General Manager, Northern Railway, conducted an extensive inspection of the Srinagar–Katra rail section amid heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures prevailing across the Kashmir Valley.
During the visit, the General Manager inspected key stations including Srinagar, Pampore, Anantnag, and Qazigund, reviewing passenger amenities to ensure commuter comfort during harsh winter conditions. He also assessed the progress of ongoing maintenance and construction works on tunnels and bridges, and personally examined critical track components such as points, switches, and turnouts to ensure their reliability in extreme cold.
Interacting with ground staff and track maintainers, Verma acknowledged their dedication in maintaining rail operations under challenging weather conditions. He sought first-hand feedback on winter-related operational challenges and reiterated that staff safety and well-being remain a top priority.
Directing accompanying officials, the General Manager instructed that adequate winter gear, equipment, and safety provisions be made available to all field personnel without delay to ensure efficient and safe maintenance work during the ongoing winter spell.
The inspection concluded with a review of other infrastructure projects in the region. Officers were advised to maintain strict adherence to timelines, ensuring that developmental works and rail operations remain unaffected despite adverse weather conditions.
