Port Victoria (Seychelles), September 1, 2025: The First Training Squadron (1TS) of the Indian Navy, comprising INS Tir, INS Shardul, and Coast Guard Ship Sarathi, arrived at Port Victoria, Seychelles on Monday as part of its long-range training deployment in the South West Indian Ocean Region (SW IOR).
The squadron’s arrival was marked with a ceremonial welcome by the Seychelles Defence Force (SDF) band, reflecting the deep-rooted maritime friendship between India and Seychelles. The Indian Navy’s ceremonial guard and band also paraded, showcasing solidarity and mutual respect.
Senior Officer 1TS, Captain Tijo K Joseph, will call on key dignitaries from the Government of Seychelles, senior officers of the Seychelles Defence Force, and officials from the Indian High Commission.
This deployment highlights the Indian Navy’s commitment to regional security, training, and capacity building in line with India’s vision of MAHASAGAR in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). It also marks the third port call by Indian Navy ships to Seychelles in 2025, underlining the robust bilateral engagement and cooperation in maritime affairs.
The visit is scheduled from September 1, 2025, with multiple activities planned across Seychelles during the port call.
The visit includes:
- Professional exchanges and cross-deck visits with SDF personnel.
- Training interactions to strengthen operational cooperation.
- Cultural programs such as yoga sessions, a Naval Band performance, and community outreach.
- Sports fixtures and social engagements to promote people-to-people ties.
By combining training, cultural exchange, and community outreach, the First Training Squadron’s deployment reinforces India’s role as a trusted maritime partner and reflects the shared commitment of India and Seychelles to regional stability, friendship, and cooperation in the IOR.
