PM Modi Inaugurates SJVN’s 1000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project, Strengthening India’s Green Energy Mission

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated SJVN’s 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project from Pachpadra, Rajasthan, on Saturday, marking a major milestone in India’s renewable energy journey. The project is one of the country’s largest solar power initiatives and reflects the government’s commitment to achieving clean energy and sustainability goals.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Rajasthan Governor Shri Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Minister of Power, Housing & Urban Affairs Shri Manohar Lal, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of State (I/C) for Law & Justice Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Deputy Chief Ministers Smt. Diya Kumari and Dr. Prem Chand Bairwa, along with several senior government officials.

Senior officials of SJVN also joined the event virtually, including CMD Shri Bhupender Gupta, Director (Personnel) Shri Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Finance) Shri Parthajit De, Director (Projects) Shri Rajesh Kumar Chandel, Chief Vigilance Officer Shri Pankaj Porwal, CEO of SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) Shri Prashant Sharma and other officials.

Developed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), the renewable energy arm of SJVN, the 1,000 MW solar project has been established in Bikaner, Rajasthan, with an investment of approximately ₹5,492 crore across nearly 5,000 acres of land. The project is recognized as India’s largest single EPC solar project under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) category at a single location, highlighting the country’s growing capability in indigenous renewable energy infrastructure.

The project is expected to generate approximately 2,454.84 million units (MU) of electricity during its first year of operation and around 56,482.14 million units over its projected operational life of 25 years. The generated power will be supplied to Rajasthan (500 MW), Uttarakhand (200 MW), and Jammu & Kashmir (300 MW), helping strengthen the country’s clean energy network while ensuring reliable power supply to these states.

According to SJVN, the solar project is expected to reduce nearly 2.79 billion kilograms of carbon emissions during its operational life, making a significant contribution to India’s climate action commitments and environmental sustainability goals.

A major highlight of the project is its focus on the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. The project has utilized around 24.22 lakh domestically manufactured DCR solar modules and nearly 175 crore indigenous solar cells, providing a significant boost to India’s domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem.

Apart from clean energy generation, the project has also contributed to regional economic development. During the construction and commissioning phases, it created more than 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. It has also supported the development of roads, transmission infrastructure and other essential facilities, accelerating the overall growth of the Bikaner region.

SJVN, a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, currently has an installed capacity of 4,196.5 MW and operates two transmission lines with a combined length of 123 kilometres. The successful commissioning of the 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project further strengthens SJVN’s renewable energy portfolio and reinforces its commitment to supporting India’s vision of a sustainable, self-reliant and energy-secure future.
