The Indian National Archives (NAI) celebrated its 135th Foundation Day on 11 March 2025 with an exhibition called “Indian Heritage”. Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat inaugurated the exhibition. To provide a comprehensive discovery of Indian heritage through its architectural sites, the exhibition classified these sites into thematic groups, So that they can have a deep understanding of historical, cultural and spiritual importance.
The selection of original documents from the archial stores was on the performance, including official government files, private papers of prestigious personalities, archaeological excavation records, UNESCO documents and rare books from NAI Library. National Archives of India,
An attached office under the Ministry of Culture, originally established as the Imperial Record Department in Kolkata (Calcutta) on 11 March 1891. After transferring the capital to Delhi in 1911, the current NAI building designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens was completed in 1926. The complete transfer of records from Calcutta to New Delhi was finalized in 1937. India’s National Archives also serves as a nodal agency to implement the Public Records Act, 1993 and the Public Records Rules, 1997.
