BEML Limited, a leading defence and heavy engineering company under the Ministry of Defence, has commenced the assembly of its Light Armoured Multipurpose Vehicle (LAMV) at its Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) facility. The launch ceremony was graced by CMD Shri Shantanu Roy, along with Functional Directors and the senior leadership team.
The 100% indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured LAMV stands as a significant milestone under the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. The achievement has been made possible through the concerted efforts of BEML’s Future Platforms & Innovation Integration Centre (FPIIC) and the Armoured Vehicle SBU teams, ensuring complete self-reliance in sub-systems and technology.
The newly developed LAMV will now undergo extensive evaluation trials by the Indian Army across varied terrains, including high-altitude operational areas such as Eastern Ladakh. Once inducted, the platform is expected to strengthen the Army’s Recce & Support Battalions, enhancing mobility, protection, and versatility in modern combat scenarios.
CMD Shri Shantanu Roy commended the teams for their innovation-driven approach, noting that the project reinforces India’s indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem and reflects BEML’s commitment to delivering advanced solutions for the Armed Forces.
This development marks a strategic step in India’s defence indigenisation journey, paving the way for robust, homegrown platforms tailored to the needs of the Indian Army.
