Google has unveiled plans to establish a gigawatt-scale Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, marking its largest investment in India to date. The USD 15 billion project, to be developed over five years (2026–2030), aims to accelerate AI-driven services, create high-value jobs, and strengthen India’s digital infrastructure in alignment with the Viksit Bharat Vision.
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology highlighted the hub as a transformative milestone for India’s digital economy. The Minister emphasized that the facility will enable AI-first infrastructure, powered by clean energy, and create opportunities for large-scale reskilling and upskilling of IT professionals. He also proposed a Vizag–Sittwe digital link to enhance connectivity to India’s North-Eastern states and highlighted potential for the Andaman Islands to emerge as a hub for international internet data transfer.
The AI Hub will integrate advanced data center capacity, renewable energy, and expanded fiber-optic networks, enabling low-latency, high-performance AI services. Developed with partners including AdaniConnex and Airtel, the campus will support businesses and startups across India, including enterprises like MakeMyTrip, Meesho, TCS, and AI startups such as CoRover, Glance, Invideo AI, and Sarvam.
Google CEO emphasized that the project will establish Visakhapatnam as a key AI and digital connectivity hub, linking India to global subsea cable networks. The hub will strengthen India’s digital backbone, improve internet resilience, and expand access to AI-driven innovation nationwide.
The investment also includes clean energy initiatives to increase electricity grid resilience in Andhra Pradesh, reinforcing India’s commitment to sustainable digital transformation and inclusive economic growth.
