POWERGRID has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Power Department of the Government of Sikkim to upgrade and reinforce the low-tension (LT) transmission network in remote border villages across the state. The initiative will be implemented under POWERGRID’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, aiming to improve electricity access and reliability in underserved Himalayan regions.
The MoU was signed between S. T. Bhutia, Chief Engineer, Power Department, Government of Sikkim, and N. K. Bhaskar, Senior General Manager (Gangtok-CSSTDS). The signing took place in the presence of Power Secretary Bikash Deokota; POWERGRID Director (Personnel) Yatindra Dwivedi; Executive Director (CSR) Jasbir Singh; CGM In-Charge (ER-II & Odisha Projects) Ashok Kumar Naik; and General Manager (HR) Prashant Kumar.
The partnership is expected to accelerate infrastructure improvements, support community development, and enhance the overall quality of life in Sikkim’s border areas through a more stable and resilient power network.
