Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated three major POWERGRID transmission projects in Rajasthan, aimed at strengthening renewable energy evacuation and supporting India’s clean energy transition.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Government of India and POWERGRID, highlighting the collaboration between the central government and the national transmission utility.
Projects include:
- Rajasthan REZ Ph-IV (Part-2: 5.5 GW) through POWERGRID Beawar-Mandsaur Transmission Limited
- Rajasthan REZ Ph-V (Part-1: 4 GW) through POWERGRID Sirohi Khandwa Transmission Limited
- Rajasthan REZ Ph-IV (Part-3: 6 GW) through POWERGRID Bikaner IV Transmission Limited
The foundation stones were laid at Mahi Banswara, Rajasthan, marking the commencement of projects with a combined investment of ₹13,200 crore.
Once completed, these transmission systems will cover over 2,300 circuit km, significantly increasing the grid’s capacity to evacuate renewable energy from Rajasthan’s REZ zones. The projects directly support India’s target of 500 GW non-fossil fuel-based power by 2030 and enhance nationwide grid reliability.
POWERGRID’s dedicated project subsidiaries will implement the transmission systems using modern technology and efficient project management practices, ensuring timely commissioning and optimal performance.
These initiatives will not only facilitate the integration of renewable power but also accelerate India’s transition to sustainable energy, reflecting POWERGRID’s commitment to building a future-ready, resilient transmission network.
