The ongoing dry-docking and major refit of ONGC’s Jack-Up Rig Sagar Kiran drew significant attention during a high-level visit to Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL). The ONGC Chairperson, along with the Director (Technology & Field Services), joined CSL’s Chairperson and senior teams from both organisations to review the progress of the project.
The Sagar Kiran is undergoing an extensive upgrade to achieve Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU) 89 compliance. The refit includes major steel renewals, critical pipe replacements, improved accommodation facilities, and comprehensive overhauls of essential drilling and operational equipment.
CSL’s senior leadership provided a detailed presentation outlining the refurbishment progress and upcoming milestones. The briefing also highlighted the expanded ship-repair capacity and advanced dry-dock infrastructure at Kochi, reinforcing CSL’s growing role in supporting India’s offshore energy assets.
The upgrade of Sagar Kiran marks a crucial step in strengthening ONGC’s offshore drilling capabilities and ensuring long-term operational readiness.
