North Central Railway’s Key Initiatives to Ensure Uninterrupted Power Supply for Mahakumbh Mela 2025

Ensuring Uninterrupted Power Supply During Mahakumbh Mela 2025: Key Initiatives by North Central Railway

The Mahakumbh Mela 2025, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, is expected to draw millions of devotees to Prayagraj. Held at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers, this event is not only of immense spiritual significance but also a major attraction for pilgrims and tourists from across the country.

Indian Railways has prioritized providing safe, convenient, and organized services to all travelers during this grand event. To ensure uninterrupted power supply at railway stations, temporary camps, and the mela grounds, North Central Railway has implemented a series of well-planned measures:

Reliable Power Supply to Key Locations

To maintain consistent electricity, auxiliary transformers have been connected to the Over Head Electrification (OHE) system at crucial stations like Prayagraj, Subedarganj, Prayagraj Chheoki, Naini, Vindhyachal, Bharatkup, Shivrampur, and Chitrakoot Dham Karvi. This ensures a steady supply of electricity at these sites without disruptions.

Steps for Enhanced Lighting and Backup Power

  • Rechargeable Lighting: 3,000 rechargeable tube lights have been installed on platforms and station premises.
  • Transformers: 20 auxiliary transformers have been deployed at various locations to maintain uninterrupted power.
  • Diesel Generators: 16 additional DG (Diesel Generator) sets have been installed to provide backup power.
  • UPS Systems: 14 Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units have been set up to address emergency situations.

These measures ensure that even in emergencies, railway stations will remain illuminated, and passenger movement will continue unhindered. Additionally, a dedicated team of railway staff will monitor vital power supply points 24/7 to address any unforeseen situations. Extra personnel have also been assigned to maintain power on footbridges and stairways.

Safety Measures for Passengers

To ensure passenger safety and prevent electrical shocks:

  • Earth Testing: 934 earth connections have been inspected, providing a protective shield against electric hazards.
  • Thermal Vision Scans: Earth connections at 374 locations have been checked using thermal vision cameras.
  • Residual Current Circuit Breakers (RCCBs): 866 RCCBs with overcurrent protection have been installed. These devices instantly cut off power in case of accidental contact with electrical equipment, safeguarding passengers.

Proactive Safety Inspections

The Electrical Department has conducted extensive safety inspections over the past few months, identifying and securing all critical power supply points. This rigorous drive aims to eliminate any risk of mishaps and ensure seamless power supply during the event.

As the Mahakumbh Mela approaches, the Electrical Department’s team is working tirelessly, day and night, to ensure that the spiritual journey of devotees is as smooth and uninterrupted as their travel experience. Indian Railways remains committed to playing its crucial role in the success of this monumental event, reaffirming its dedication to safety, reliability, and service excellence.
