NCR SEWA Portal Launched for Paperless Employee Welfare Services

NCR SEWA Portal has been launched by North Central Railway to promote Ease of Working and digital Swachhata under the Government of India’s Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters. The portal was formally inaugurated by NCR General Manager Naresh Pal Singh in the presence of senior officers and staff.

SEWA stands for Sanction of Employee Welfare Applications. It is a web-based portal developed for the Employee Welfare Fund of North Central Railway. The main objective of the NCR SEWA Portal is to replace physical paper files with a completely digital workflow for welfare-related applications.

Through the NCR SEWA Portal, employee welfare claims can move from the initial application stage to final sanction entirely online. This removes the need for paper files to physically move from one desk to another. The initiative is expected to save time, reduce paperwork and improve transparency in the processing of welfare claims.

In its initial phase, the portal covers three major schemes of the Welfare Fund. These include reimbursement for spectacles and scholarships for employees’ children under the technical education and higher education categories. Railway employees can apply for these benefits online without visiting multiple offices.

Employees can log in to the NCR SEWA Portal using their mobile number and a One-Time Password. After logging in, they can upload the required documents once and track the real-time status of their application at every desk. This facility will help employees know exactly where their application is pending and what action has been taken.

To reduce errors and pendency, the system automatically verifies eligibility against the applicable rules before an application is submitted. This automated verification is expected to reduce incomplete or incorrect applications and speed up the approval process.

Each desk will approve its action through a digital signature token or OTP. Once all required approvals are completed, sanctioned cases will be processed collectively on a single list. The system will also automatically generate bank payment statements and pendency reports, reducing manual work for railway offices.

NCR SEWA Portal is available in both English and Hindi. This will make it easier for employees across different regions and departments to use the platform without language-related difficulties.

The portal has been conceptualised, designed and developed by the IT Cell of North Central Railway under the guidance of Tarun Kumar Shukla, CMIT/NCR. Ashish Kumar, Amit Kumar and Anil Kumar Patel have made key contributions to the development of the application.

Speaking on the occasion, General Manager Naresh Pal Singh praised the IT Cell for developing the NCR SEWA Portal. He said the portal would play an important role in disposing of pending matters quickly and improving Ease of Working under the Special Campaign.

He further said that by eliminating physical paper files, North Central Railway is creating cleaner and more organised workplaces. The digital system will also ensure transparent, faster and hassle-free delivery of welfare services to railway employees.

The launch of the NCR SEWA Portal is another major step in North Central Railway’s ongoing efforts to digitalise establishment and personnel-related processes. The railway said the portal will soon be rolled out across the entire railway network.

The initiative reflects the broader objective of the Special Campaign, which focuses on disposing of pending matters, reducing pendency and promoting cleanliness in government offices. By moving welfare services online, NCR aims to make public service delivery more efficient and employee-friendly.

With features such as online application submission, document upload, automated eligibility checks, digital approvals and real-time status tracking, the NCR SEWA Portal is expected to significantly reduce delays in welfare-related work. It will also support environmental sustainability by minimising the use of paper.

NCR SEWA Portal is likely to become an important digital tool for railway employees seeking welfare benefits. Its successful implementation may also encourage other railway zones and government departments to adopt similar paperless systems for employee services.
