MeitY Showcases Indigenous AgriTech Innovations for a Self-Reliant India

Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has announced the transfer and launch of five indigenous AgriTech and environmental technologies, showcasing India’s growing capacity to harness sensors, electronics, and AI for a sustainable and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Announcement was made by S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, during a technology transfer and product launch event in New Delhi. Highlighting the transformative potential of homegrown AgriTech solutions, he stated that data-driven, market-oriented models will be key to enhancing scalability and sustainability in India’s agriculture and environmental management sectors.

First technology transfer involved an Electronics-based Dairy Solution, developed by C-DAC Kolkata, IIT Kharagpur, and ICAR-NDRI Kalyani, and transferred to Handholders Global, Bhubaneswar.

  • Go-P (Cattle Health Monitoring System): A wearable collar device that tracks real-time physiological temperature changes in cattle to predict optimal breeding cycles.
  • MAST-D (Mastitis Detection System): A portable diagnostic tool that identifies mastitis infection in milk through electrochemical analysis, helping farmers reduce dairy losses and improve productivity.

Second transfer, to Agnext Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Punjab, introduced a suite of systems for quality estimation of rice, pulses, and dry red chilli, developed by C-DAC Kolkata, ICAR-IARI, and the Food Corporation of India:

  • Grain-Ex: Uses AI-based imaging to analyze grain samples in real-time, detecting impurities and damage.
  • CT-VIEU: A conveyorized imaging system for chilli quality analysis, providing comprehensive reports through an interactive graphical interface.
  • RIGE-Sense: An AI/ML-integrated machine vision system for rice age and quality estimation—designed to enhance transparency and efficiency in the public distribution system.

In a significant stride towards cleaner urban environments, MeitY also launched ODORPravah, a sensor-based odour and emission monitoring device developed by C-DAC Kolkata. The compact and cost-effective system uses photoionization detectors and electrochemical sensors to measure odour-causing gases in municipal waste, landfill, and industrial sites—providing real-time data for environmental compliance and public health protection.

Speaking at the event, the MeitY Secretary emphasized that indigenous AgriTech innovations such as cattle health monitoring and crop-quality assessment systems are transforming agriculture from traditional to technology-enabled practices. He noted that such advancements will boost farmer income, ensure traceability, and support national self-reliance goals.
