Dr. DK Sunil has taken on the role of Chairman and Managing Director (Additional Charge) of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), effective September 1, 2024, succeeding Mr. C.B. Ananthakrishnan. Dr. Sunil, who began his journey with HAL as a Management Trainee in 1987, brings nearly 37 years of extensive experience across various roles within the company. His contributions have been pivotal in the areas of design, production, quality enhancement, and customer support.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sunil has spearheaded the development of innovative technologies such as the Radar Power Supply, Voice Activated Control System, and Combined Interrogator Transponder, which have emerged as key growth drivers for HAL. He has been a key figure in fostering collaborations with prestigious institutions like IIT Kanpur for datalink technologies and IIIT Hyderabad for voice recognition systems, further solidifying HAL’s standing in advanced technology sectors.
During his tenure at the Mission Combat Systems R&D Centre in Bengaluru, Dr. Sunil led groundbreaking projects, including the development of Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar, the Automatic Flight Control System for the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), and mission computers for both helicopter and fighter platforms. His design expertise encompasses everything from equipment-level projects to complex system-level initiatives for aircraft and helicopters, covering the full spectrum of design activities at HAL’s various design centers.
