On August 2, 2024, a seminar was held at the Technical Training Center of Banaras Locomotive Works (Breka) in collaboration with the Ministry of MSME. The seminar focused on the “Lean Manufacturing Competitive Scheme” and the “Zero Defect Zero Effect” scheme, and was attended by representatives from approximately 26 MSME companies from across the country.
General Manager Shri Abhay Bakre inaugurated the seminar and highlighted that the main objective of the Lean and Zero Defect Zero Effect schemes, launched by the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, is to provide a global competitiveness framework for Indian MSME manufacturers and vendors. The aim is to improve productivity and quality while reducing defects and environmental impact. These initiatives are expected to significantly reduce waste, enhance productivity, increase environmental awareness, save energy, optimize the use of natural resources, and expand market reach.
Shri Bakre emphasized that BLW electric locomotives play a crucial role in the country’s progress, and the seminar aimed to enhance the productivity and quality of the products manufactured by the participating companies.
The seminar featured presentations from key speakers, including Shri L.B.S. Yadav, Joint Director, MSME, and Dr. Aradhna Chopra, Director of the Indian Quality Council, who discussed the Lean scheme. Dr. Ramanand Shukla, Senior Director of the Indian Quality Council, provided insights into the Zero Defect Zero Effect scheme. They stressed the importance of MSME products meeting global standards and increasing in quality and productivity. The representatives were guided on registering for the Lean and Zero Defect schemes and were informed about the associated benefits.
An open house discussion followed, where representatives from the attending companies asked questions about the Lean and Zero Defect schemes, which were addressed satisfactorily.
The seminar also saw participation from prominent officials such as Shri S.K. Srivastav, Chief Electrical Engineer; Shri Rajneesh Gupta, Chief Material Manager; Shri Subrata Nath, Chief Mechanical Engineer; Shri Praveen Kumar, Chief Quality Assurance Manager; Shri R.R. Prasad, Chief Design Engineer-Diesel; Shri Ramjanm Chaube, Chief Mechanical Engineer-QMS; Shri S.B. Patel, Chief Safety Officer; and Rajesh Kumar, Public Relations Officer, among others. The seminar was successfully conducted by Shri Avadhesh Kumar, Chief Workshop Trainer, Technical Training Center.
