Sh. Deepak Gupta, Director (Projects) at GAIL, delivered an insightful keynote address at the 17th Environment and Energy Conclave, organized by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industries (BCC&I) on September 13, 2024, at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. His presentation, titled “Potential for Gas Energy,” underscored the role of natural gas as a transitional fuel in addressing climate change while the world increasingly shifts towards electrification and the use of renewable energy sources.
In his talk, Sh. Gupta detailed GAIL’s key initiatives to develop pipeline infrastructure and connect to the National Gas Grid (NGG), aiming to expand the reach of natural gas to even the most remote areas of the country. He emphasized the goal to increase the share of natural gas in the energy mix from the current 7% to 15%, as envisioned by the Government of India.
He reaffirmed GAIL’s unwavering commitment to overcoming challenges and building necessary infrastructure to ensure a secure, affordable, and sustainable natural gas supply. Sh. Gupta also highlighted the potential for further enhancing the sustainability of natural gas through blending with bio-gas and hydrogen, making it a preferred fuel even in Net Zero scenarios.
Additionally, he congratulated BCC&I for their contributions to sustainability and their representation of India on global platforms.
