Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the BJP’s official election manifesto — called the ‘Sankalp Patra’ — in Kolkata on Thursday, marking a major milestone in the party’s campaign for the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026. The document, Shah said, reflects PM Modi’s vision for a developed India and promises sweeping change for the people of Bengal.
Speaking at the launch event in Kolkata, Amit Shah targeted the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), claiming that people in West Bengal are “frightened and disillusioned” under the current government and are desperately seeking change. He emphasized that the BJP is currently the main opposition in the West Bengal Assembly and is positioning itself as the clear alternative for governance.
The Sankalp Patra contains several key promises for West Bengal, including improved law and order, protection from illegal infiltration, economic development, and empowerment of women and youth.
PM Modi is also actively campaigning in the state, and in a recent rally, criticized the TMC government on the issue of infiltration while announcing six promises specifically for Bengal voters.
The West Bengal elections are one of the most hotly contested political battles in India, and the BJP is investing heavily in the campaign to unseat the TMC from power.
The TMC has dismissed the manifesto as “empty promises,” with party leaders pointing to BJP’s track record in other states. The election season in Bengal is expected to be fiercely competitive in the coming weeks.
