10 NCC cadets targeted to climb target Mount Everest
Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh flagged off campaigns from South Block, New Delhi to Mount Everest (8,848 meters) and Mount Kanchanjanga (8,586 meters) on April 03, 2025. The Indian Army’s Mount Everest campaign consists of 34 climbers and the team will follow the traditional South Coal Route which will be led by Lieutenant Colonel Manoj Joshi.
The United India-Nepal campaign aims to climb Mount Kanchanjunga. It will include 12 climbers of the Indian Army and six climbers of the Nepali Army. It will be led by Colonel Sarfaraz Singh of the Indian Army.
In addition, Colonel Amit Bisht will lead a joint NCC campaign on Mount Everest. The team consists of five students cadets, five students cadets, four officers and 11 permanent instructor employees. The goal of these campaigns starting this month is to reach their respective peaks by May 2025.
The Defence Minister interacted with climbers and appreciated their courage, dedication and determination. He expressed confidence that these campaigns would inspire the youth and display India’s leadership in mountaineering in high altitude areas.
These campaigns are designed to display extraordinary skills, flexibility and indomitable spirit of the armed forces. These are expected to inspire future generations to pursue their dreams with a sense of courage, determination and excellence.
The event organized by the Indian Army was attended by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Ambassador of Nepal in India, Dr. Shankar P. Sharma, a delegation from Nepal and other senior citizens and military officers.
