In the Army Commanders’ Conference, which is being held in New Delhi from 1-4 April 2025, senior leadership of the Indian Army held wide discussion on various security challenges, organizational restructuring and modernization efforts. On the third day of the conference, Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh addressed the senior leadership of the army, in which he expressed his views on the current security scenario and the army’s role in national development.
The Defence Minister appreciated the unprecedented role in the security of the Indian Army, fighting terrorism and assisting civil administration under emergency circumstances. He said that the contribution of the Indian Army is very important in nation building and national development, and it works actively in various fields such as security, medical aid, humanity -based relief functions.
In the global perspective, the Defence Minister emphasized the growing role of cyber, information and communication techniques in modern war, hybrid wars and future struggles. He called upon the army to adopt a dynamic and visionary approach to future strategies, in which discussed the important role of a strong military intelligence by modern technology.
On the north border, the Defence Minister expressed full confidence in the vigilance and determination of the army and appreciated the Border Rhodes Organization (BRO) for the improvement of the border roads. On the western border, the Defence Minister appreciated the success of the army across the border terrorism and spoke of promoting good coordination between security forces and army in Jammu and Kashmir, which has increased the stability in the region.
The Defence Minister appreciated the operations of the army and highlighted its contribution to military diplomacy, strengthening collaborative relations with foreign forces. He emphasized on making the role of defence attachments more effective, to promote national security interests.
The Defence Minister appreciated the technological progress of the army and emphasized the need for indigenous technological development in association with civil industries and educational institutions under the ‘Atamnirbharta’ He also said that the government is committed to the welfare of martyred soldiers and their families.
Raksha Mantri commended on the initiative of discussions being done with Niti Ayog on achieving the aim of ‘Viksit Bharat’ during this Army Commander Conference.
Concluding his address, the Defence Minister called upon the senior leadership to continuously discuss defence diplomacy, indigenization, and force modernization. He also said that considerations and reviews should be done from time to time to prepare the defence forces for the future, and the government fully supports the army’s reforms and capacity modernization efforts.
