IP&TAFS Celebrates 50 Years of Service: Vice-President and Communications Minister Highlight Key Contributions

Modern Civil Servants as Change Agents, Inclusivity as the Foundation of Bharat’s Progress

The Indian Posts & Telecommunications Accounts and Finance Service (IP&TAFS) marked its 50th Foundation Day with a grand event in New Delhi. Vice-President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar and Union Minister of Communications Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia attended as chief dignitaries, applauding the cadre’s pivotal role in India’s telecommunications and postal financial systems.

1. Modernizing Governance:
   Vice-President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar called for civil servants to embrace technology and act as facilitators of change. He emphasized cross-departmental collaboration and integrating AI-powered audit systems with human oversight to improve governance.
2. Inclusivity, Innovation, and Security:
   Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia outlined the principles of inclusivity, innovation, and security as the “kavach” (shield) for every citizen. He praised IP&TAFS for its role in the SAMPANN pension model, which ensures seamless pension disbursement for over 5 lakh retirees, and Digital Bharat Nidhi initiatives promoting digital inclusion.
3. Transformative Contributions:
   Since its inception in 1974, IP&TAFS has contributed significantly to managing spectrum auctions, revenue generation, and supporting over 3,500 telecom and internet companies. Its efforts have channeled ₹25,000 crore annually to the government, bolstering projects like the Universal Service Obligation Fund.
4. Pioneering Digital Reforms:
   The cadre’s initiatives, such as the SARAS revenue assurance portal and IT-based accounting systems, have streamlined financial processes and enhanced accountability in telecom and postal sectors.
5. Resilience During COVID-19:
   During the pandemic, IP&TAFS officers efficiently processed over 80,000 pension cases under VRS 2019, ensuring financial stability for affected families.
6. Future Focus:
   With a legacy of robust internal audits, technological innovation, and commitment to service, the cadre continues to drive financial governance and nation-building in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

This milestone reflects IP&TAFS’s dedication to modernizing India’s telecom and postal sectors while maintaining financial integrity and inclusive growth.
