Second 100 m Span of a 2 x 100 m long Steel Bridge Launched over NH – 48 in Gujarat for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project
The second 100 meter span of the 2 X 100 meter long steel bridge was successfully launched on NH-48 (connecting Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai) near Nadiad in Gujarat for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. The first span of 100 meters for this steel bridge was completed in the month of April 2025. It is the ninth steel bridge out of 17 steel bridges employed in Gujarat.
Consisting of two spans of 100 meters, this steel bridge weighs around 2884 metric tons, it is 14.6 meters long and 14.3 meters wide. Built at Salasar’s workshop near Hapur in Uttar Pradesh, steel bridges are designed for the age of 100.
NH-48 is one of the busiest highways with six lanes (three lanes on each side). The second part of the bridge was moved to 100 meters from one end and launched on the highway between three lanes. It was launched with a fixed timeline to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the busy highway and to ensure minimal disruption for road users.
This 200 meter long steel bridge is built of about 1,14,172 to——four types of high strength (TTHS) bolt, C5 system painting and elastomeric bearings. It was added to temporary trasts at an altitude of 14.9 meters from the ground and two semi-luxurious jacks with Mac-Eloy Bar, each of which is capable of lifting 250 tons of weight, was run using an automated mechanism.
