Major General Paul Owuor Otieno, Commander of the Kenya Navy, is on an official visit to India from 28 September to 2 October 2025, aiming to further maritime cooperation and bilateral ties between the two nations.
On 29 September, Major General Otieno was received by Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, at South Block Lawns, New Delhi, where he was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour. The leaders discussed operational, training, and hydrographic engagements, multilateral Exercise AIKEYME, and consolidation of the India–Kenya ‘BAHARI’ Maritime Vision.
The visit underscores the strategic importance of India–Kenya naval relations and the shared commitment to maintaining security and stability in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). It also reinforces active collaboration in multilateral exercises, information sharing, and maritime capacity building.
Major General Otieno laid a wreath at the National War Memorial to pay homage to fallen soldiers. scheduled visits include the Information Fusion Centre for the Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) in Gurugram and the Southern Naval Command training establishments in Kochi to enhance training cooperation.
Kenya Navy actively participates in initiatives such as Exercise AIKEYME, the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS), Goa Maritime Conclave, and the Djibouti Code of Conduct – Jeddah Amendment (DCoC-JA).
Recently, ships of the Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron – INS Tir, INS Sujata, INS Shardul, and ICGS Sarathi – conducted a port call at Mombasa, Kenya, as part of their long-range training deployment in the South West Indian Ocean, further cementing India–Kenya maritime ties.
Strengthened maritime security and operational collaboration for India and Kenya, enhanced training and capacity-building opportunities for naval personnel, consolidation of the Indian Ocean regional security architecture through joint initiatives.
