Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan today announced that the central government has completely removed 20% export duty on onions. He described this step as better benefits for farmers and to increase their reach in global markets.
Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the Modi government is a Kisan Mitra government and giving proper and beneficial prices to the farmers is its priority and commitment. He said that earlier, onions were charged a 40% export duty, but when onion prices started falling and farmers started getting low prices, the government reduced this export duty from 40% to 20%.
Now, the decision to completely remove 20% export duty will benefit Indian farmers. Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, “By removing the export duty, the government is making sure that the products of our farmers reach the global markets without any additional tax. This will give them better prices and will be more beneficial for them.”
Export duty removal is likely to have a positive impact on domestic and international onion markets. Now farmers will have more opportunities to sell their onions abroad, which can increase their income and will also increase the competition for Indian onions in the global market.
Shri Chouhan repeated the government’s commitment to support the agriculture sector and give fair prices to farmers across the country. This step is part of the government’s efforts to encourage the agricultural sector and empower Indian farmers.
