Trainee officials of the Indian Revenue Service (78th batch) met India’s President Mrs. Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan today (March 4, 2025).
Addressing the officials, the President said that the work of Indian Revenue Service officials is one of the most important works for governance and welfare. He highlighted the importance of taxes for a vibrant economy. He said that as officials of the Indian Revenue Service, they would play an important role in ensuring that this necessary resources are collected in a fair, effective and transparent manner.
The President said that our infrastructure is growing, digital connectivity intervals and economic opportunities are more accessible than ever. He emphasized that resources should be managed with efficiency and fairness to make development sustainable and inclusive and citizens should rely on the system. He said that his role is important because he would oversee the process to ensure that everyone contributes to his valid capacity, while he is treated with respect and dignity.
The President said that while changing, increasing expectations and government initiatives have started a new era of greater efficiency, transparency and convenience. Digital technology is at the core of this change. He was happy to know that the Income Tax Department uses advanced data analytics to detect discrepancies with remarkable accuracy and ensures that honest taxpayers do not face inconvenience. He advised the authorities to remember that technology is just a tool and it is not an alternative to human values. He said that data-operated systems can increase efficiency, but they can never replace sympathy and integrity. He told the officials that the purpose of their policies and functions should be towards the development of all, especially deprived and weaker sections.
The Indian Revenue Service (78th batch) official trainees, including two Royal Bhutan service officials, are receiving induction training at the National Direct Taxes Academy (NADT), Nagpur.
