Focus on ring road and bypass to reduce urban congestion and increase connectivity
As a major step towards strengthening the National Highway Development and ensuring uninterrupted urban dynamics, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari presided over a counseling workshop in New Delhi today. Union Minister of State Shri Ajay Tamta, Mr. Harsh Malhotra, senior state government officials and Municipal Commissioners were present in this session.
The workshop emphasized new policy interventions with the objective of developing sustainable, world -class transport infrastructure. The construction of the ring road and bypass was mainly focused on the construction of heavy traffic to be folded away from the city centers, which would help reduce congestion on urban national highways and improve traffic efficiency.
Shri Nitin Gadkari underlined the vision of the government’s inclusive and infrastructure prepared for the future which balances economic development, urban development and environmental responsibility. Ring road and bypass are expected not only to improve traffic flows, but also enable employed urban expansion in the surrounding areas.
Discussions highlighted the use of value capture financing models as a permanent funding mechanism. The integration of highway development with the city’s master plans was also proposed to ensure alignment with local urban planning goals.
This initiative will reduce the congestion in rapidly growing cities, increase the final-mile connectivity, and create regulated impact areas that support both mobility and economic opportunities for citizens.
