S. Usha Assumes Charge as Director (Market Operation), GRID-INDIA

S. Usha has assumed charge as Director (Market Operation), GRID-INDIA, with effect from January 28, 2026. She becomes the first woman to hold this position in the organisation.

A 1989-batch B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from Calicut University, S. Usha brings over 35 years of experience in the Indian power sector, having served across key institutions including the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), POWERGRID, and GRID-INDIA. Prior to her current appointment, she was serving as Executive Director, National Load Despatch Centre (NLDC), GRID-INDIA, where she played a significant role in power market reforms and ensuring the secure and reliable operation of the National Grid.

In her new role, S. Usha will oversee market operations, regulatory implementation, and system efficiency functions at GRID-INDIA. She will provide strategic direction for the development of India’s electricity markets, while strengthening GRID-INDIA’s focus on inclusive and progressive governance.

GRID-INDIA (formerly POSOCO) is responsible for operating the country’s power system through the National Load Despatch Centre (NLDC) in New Delhi and Regional Load Despatch Centres (RLDCs) located in New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Guwahati/Shillong. The organisation is entrusted with maintaining grid security, reliability, and integrated operation of the Indian Power System, in accordance with the Electricity Act and directions issued by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and the Government of India.
