Oil India Limited has announced a significant milestone with the first-ever occurrence of natural gas in its second exploratory well, Vijayapuram-2, situated in the Andaman Shallow Offshore Block AN-OSHP-2018/1 under the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP). The breakthrough was confirmed following preliminary testing, revealing the presence of natural gas. Company officials stated that further technical studies are underway to analyse the genesis and estimate the potential of this discovery.
This development marks a landmark achievement in the ongoing Andaman exploration campaign. It is the first reported hydrocarbon occurrence for Oil India in the region, opening new prospects for future exploration and resource development in the area.
