The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, organized a meeting with Ashowering Ashas: Percuring the PHRIRE OUT our Gignity, who works with dignity to address the welfare and recognition of recognized social health workers (AShas) Has the right to do. Justice Ramsubramian emphasized the need for cooperative efforts between the central and state governments to address the welfare of Asha workers. He called for a policy that ensures better work status and minimum wages for Asha. NHRC Member Justice (DR) Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi emphasized the recognition of the important role of AShas as the first respondents in remote areas.
General Secretary Shri Bharat Lal discussed the developed challenges faced by Asha, such as excessive charge, insufficient resources and low honorarium. He suggested measures such as incentive-based payments with fixed salary, and providing accident coverage for health insurance, maternity benefits and AShas.
Major recommendations include:
Giving the status of AShas formal worker with fixed monthly Eloluments, social security and payments holidays.
To standardize the criteria in states in accordance with minimum wage regulations.
Ensuring safe work status with proper protective gear and transport allowance.
Allocating funds for childcare and ASHA welfare.
Offer a structured career path for AShas in high-paying health roles.
The Commission will continue deliberately on these suggestions to further improve the welfare of Ashas.
