Jindal Steel Secures DRDO Licence to Manufacture DMR-1700 Defence-Grade Steel

Jindal Steel has achieved a landmark milestone in India’s defence manufacturing by receiving a Licensing Agreement from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The agreement authorises the company to manufacture DMR-1700 steel sheets and plates, a critical material for high-end defence applications.

The licence was formally presented to the senior leadership of Jindal Steel by Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary DDR&D and Chairman DRDO, during a special ceremony that underscored the importance of public–private collaboration for national security.

With this authorisation, Jindal Steel can now develop and commercialise indigenous defence-grade materials, strengthening the nation’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The company will refine new processes and leverage advanced technology to meet the stringent requirements of defence platforms.

Executives highlighted that the agreement not only reinforces Jindal Steel’s leadership in innovation but also marks a significant step toward India’s self-reliance in critical materials. By working closely with the country’s premier research institutions, Jindal Steel is set to drive innovation and contribute directly to national security and strategic capabilities, further proving its position as the #SteelOfIndia.
