India’s progress as a global research and innovation hub depends on strong collaborations between industry, academia, and government, said Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, at the Global Summit on Industry–Academia Partnership 2025. The summit, themed “Catalysing India’s Rise as an R&D Powerhouse: Forging Partnerships, Driving Excellence,” brought together experts, innovators, and policy leaders to explore strategies for strengthening the national research ecosystem.
Dr. Singh highlighted the growing role of private players in strategic sectors, including space, nuclear research, and emerging technologies, marking a shift from traditional government-led models. Rising patent filings and contributions from innovators in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities underscore the expanding domestic research base and increasing participation of young talent.
The Minister emphasised that the government is transitioning to a facilitator role, enabling startups, industry, and academic institutions to jointly pursue research in priority domains. Platforms such as InSpace and sector-specific interfaces in biotechnology ensure structured, transparent, and mutually beneficial collaborations.
Releasing the CII Industry–Academia Partnership Compendium 2025, Dr. Singh noted that nurturing long-term partnerships will be central to achieving national goals, driving innovation-led growth, and strengthening India’s position in global science and technology.
