SANDEEP KUMAR |: – The Indian Navy marked a significant milestone in its indigenous shipbuilding initiative with the launch of DSC A22, the third vessel of the 05 x Diving Support Craft (DSC) project, built by Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. (TRSL), Kolkata. The launch ceremony was held on 12 September 2025 at Titagarh, West Bengal, and upheld naval traditions with the ship being formally launched by Mrs. Kangana Berry, in the presence of Vice Admiral Suraj Berry, Commander-in-Chief.
The DSC vessels, including DSC A22, are designed to conduct advanced diving operations in coastal waters and are equipped with state-of-the-art diving systems. Featuring catamaran hulls and a displacement of approximately 380 tons, these ships are built to meet operational requirements while ensuring safety and efficiency for naval divers.
The contract for the construction of 05 x DSCs was signed between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and TRSL on 12 February 2021. All ships are indigenously designed and built in compliance with the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) and Naval Rules and Regulations. Hydrodynamic analysis and model testing during the design stage were conducted at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam, ensuring optimal performance and safety standards.
The DSC project is a flagship initiative under the ‘Make in India’ programme, showcasing India’s growing self-reliance in defence shipbuilding and technological innovation.
