Indian Navy is conducting the fifth edition of the bilateral maritime exercise ‘Samudra Shakti – 2025’ with the Indonesian Navy at Visakhapatnam from October 14 to 17, 2025. The exercise marks another milestone in the growing defence cooperation between the two maritime nations, underscoring their shared commitment to security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
Participating units include INS Kavaratti, an Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette of the Eastern Fleet, and KRI John Lie, a Corvette from the Indonesian Navy equipped with an integral helicopter. The Indonesian vessel received a warm welcome upon arrival at Visakhapatnam by the Eastern Naval Command.
The harbour phase features a range of professional and cultural engagements designed to strengthen mutual understanding and build camaraderie. Activities include cross-deck visits, joint yoga sessions, friendly sports events, and Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEE).
The sea phase will comprise a series of complex maritime operations to enhance tactical coordination and interoperability. These include helicopter operations, air defence and weapon firing exercises, along with Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) drills.
‘Samudra Shakti’ serves as a vital platform to enhance interoperability, share best practices, and reinforce maritime cooperation between India and Indonesia. The exercise reflects the growing synergy between the two navies in promoting peace, security, and a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific.
