Indian Armed Forces Contingent Departs for Exercise ZAPAD 2025 in Russia

Indian Armed Forces contingent of 65 personnel has departed for Russia to take part in Exercise ZAPAD 2025, a multilateral joint military exercise scheduled from September 10 to 16 at the Mulino Training Ground, Nizhniy.

57 personnel from the Indian Army, 7 from the Indian Air Force, and 1 from the Indian Navy. The Army team is led by a battalion of the Kumaon Regiment, supported by troops from other arms and services.

Exercise ZAPAD 2025 aims to strengthen defence cooperation, enhance interoperability, and provide a platform for participating nations to exchange tactics, techniques, and procedures in both conventional warfare and counter-terrorism operations.

The exercise will take place in open and plain terrain, focusing on joint company-level operations. Missions will range from joint planning and tactical drills to specialised arms training, offering participants an opportunity to sharpen operational skills in a multinational combat setting.

Participation will help the Indian Armed Forces integrate emerging technologies, improve joint operational capabilities, and foster camaraderie with partner nations. It will also further reinforce the long-standing defence cooperation and trust between India and Russia.

By joining Exercise ZAPAD 2025, India demonstrates its commitment to multilateral military collaboration, ensuring preparedness for diverse security challenges while contributing to global peace and stability.
