On September 4, 2024, a key agreement was signed between the Indian Navy and the South African Navy to enhance mutual support for submarine rescue operations. Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Indian Naval Staff, and Vice Admiral Monde Lobese, Chief of the South African Navy, formalized the Implementing Agreement (IA).
This agreement demonstrates both navies’ dedication to maritime safety and cooperation. It includes provisions for the Indian Navy to deploy its Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) to assist South African submarines in distress. This initiative solidifies the enduring maritime partnership between India and South Africa.
