GAIL highlights energy transition and petrochemical growth at 28th Energy Technology Meet 2025

GAIL (India) Limited participated in the 28th Energy Technology Meet, held at the Hyderabad International Exhibition Centre from October 28–30, 2025. R. K. Singhal, Director (Business Development), GAIL, represented the company as a distinguished speaker in the panel discussion titled “Powering Refining and Petrochemical towards Excellence and Agility.” The session brought together senior leaders and experts from across the global Oil & Gas industry to discuss the evolving energy landscape and future growth pathways.

Addressing the panel, R. K. Singhal said that the global energy sector is undergoing a profound transformation. “The challenge before us is threefold — meeting growing energy demand efficiently, driving economic growth through value-added products like petrochemicals, and simultaneously cutting carbon emissions. In this trilemma, GAIL is uniquely positioned and fully prepared to harness the opportunities ahead,” he noted.

He highlighted GAIL’s proactive steps towards integrating gas and petrochemical value chains, underscoring the company’s strategic alignment with the emerging refinery–petrochemical–gas synergy model.

In his keynote remarks, Singhal emphasised that GAIL has been at the forefront of India’s gas-based economy, operating an extensive natural gas pipeline network of over 16,000 km that continues to expand. This infrastructure, he added, is helping refineries across India lower carbon emissions through cleaner, gaseous fuels.

Reinforcing GAIL’s commitment to innovation, Singhal shared that under the company’s vision of “Energising Possibilities,” GAIL is expanding India’s gas-based petrochemical segment by sourcing ethane and advancing projects that drive self-reliance and value addition.

He also highlighted GAIL’s upcoming initiatives, including the Propane Dehydrogenation (PDH) project at Usar, India’s first such plant with a capacity of 500 KTA of propylene, and the company’s entry into speciality chemicals through GAIL Mangalore Petrochemicals Limited (GMPL). GMPL will produce 1.25 MMTPA of Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) — a key raw material in the polyester value chain — contributing to the reduction of import dependence and strengthening domestic manufacturing in the petrochemical sector.

Through these strategic initiatives, GAIL continues to play a pivotal role in shaping India’s clean energy transition and petrochemical growth, advancing towards a more sustainable and self-reliant energy future.
