GAIL (India) Limited and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) have entered into a collaborative agreement to enhance the efficiency of RRVUNL’s gas-based power plants in Rajasthan.
A Non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today in the presence of Shri Hiralal Nagar, Hon’ble Energy Minister of Rajasthan, and Shri Alok, Additional Chief Secretary (Energy), Government of Rajasthan. Shri Sandeep Kumar Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of GAIL, and Shri Rajeev Kumar Singhal, Director (Business Development) at GAIL, attended the MoU signing ceremony.
The MoU was formalized by Shri Devendra Shringi, Chairman and Managing Director of RRVUNL, and Shri Sumit Kishore, Executive Director (Business Development and Exploration & Production) at GAIL.
The agreement aims to optimize operations at RRVUNL’s gas-based power plants in Dholpur and Ramgarh by potentially transferring them to a Joint Venture Company (JVC) formed by GAIL and RRVUNL. Additionally, the partners plan to develop around 1,000 MW of solar and wind energy projects on suitable land parcels, creating a potential for 24/7 power supply.
Prior to establishing the JVC, detailed due diligence and feasibility studies will be conducted to assess the techno-commercial viability of the projects.
GAIL operates a natural gas pipeline network of approximately 1,090 km that serves industrial clients across Rajasthan, including Chambal Fertilizers and Shriram Fertilizers, as well as 19 Authorized City Gas Distribution entities in various districts. GAIL’s pipeline network also includes a 1,427 km LPG pipeline, with 694 km operational in Rajasthan from Abu Road to Alwar. Additionally, GAIL supports the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Rajasthan by providing polymers for HDPE pipes to ensure rural households have access to tap water.
