DFS and MCMP Conduct Mediation Training for Debt Recovery Tribunal Officers and PSU Bank Executives

Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCMP), Supreme Court of India, organized a 40-hour mediation training programme for presiding officers of Debt Recovery Tribunals (DRTs) and senior executives of Public Sector Banks. The programme was held from 24th to 28th September 2025 at the Additional Building Complex, Supreme Court of India.

The training aimed to strengthen dispute resolution mechanisms and promote mediation as an effective practice for resolving conflicts through mutual consensus. The curriculum included the concept of mediation, comparison between judicial processes and various Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methods, the process and stages of mediation, the role of mediators, and communication techniques in mediation.

Special emphasis was laid on negotiation and bargaining strategies, and the role of stakeholders including referral judges, lawyers, and parties. The programme specifically focused on cases handled by DRTs under the Recovery of Debts and Bankruptcy (RDB) Act, 1993, and the SARFAESI Act, 2002.

Participants appreciated the comprehensive coverage of topics and expressed satisfaction with the training, acknowledging the efforts of DFS and MCMP in enhancing the capacity of officers and executives to resolve disputes efficiently.
