A new Dental Technology Innovation Hub was inaugurated today at the Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS), New Delhi, aimed at boosting indigenous dental devices, diagnostics, and therapy solutions. The facility is supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
The Hub will serve as an inclusive platform for innovators, start-ups, and MSMEs, promoting collaboration between public and private sectors. It is designed to provide cost-effective research and clinical solutions while contributing to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat by reducing dependence on imported dental implants and equipment.
The inauguration highlighted the government’s efforts to expand medical and dental education, including an increase of around 1,000 undergraduate and 5,000 postgraduate seats. The initiative aligns with ongoing reforms such as the National Medical Devices Policy 2023 and Medical Devices Rules 2017, which support the development of advanced, accessible, and affordable healthcare facilities nationwide.
The Hub is expected to strengthen interdisciplinary approaches, linking dental sciences with endocrinology, cardiovascular medicine, and diabetes management. Emphasis was also placed on leveraging AI tools and collaboration with engineering and technology institutions to further enhance innovation in the dental sector.
Officials at the event underlined that the Hub will play a crucial role in preparing future dentists for 2047, contributing to a Viksit Bharat. The inauguration was attended by key representatives from DST, ICMR, MAIDS, and the Government of NCT of Delhi.
