Civil Aviation Minister Shri Ram Mohan Naidu, joined by Minister of State Shri Murlidhar Mohol and senior officials, addressed the media today at Udaan Bhawan, New Delhi, regarding the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171.
On June 12, 2025, AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route from Ahmedabad to London, crashed within a minute of take-off in the densely populated Meghani Nagar area, killing all 242 onboard. Among the victims were many young medical students, whose loss has deeply affected the nation.
The Government responded swiftly, with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Home Minister Shri Amit Shah visiting the crash site and hospital to oversee relief efforts. The Civil Aviation Minister also visited the site and met with victims’ families and medical responders.
A 24×7 Control Room was activated by the Ministry, coordinating efforts from DGCA, AAIB, CISF, and AAI. Emergency helplines were established, and Air India has been instructed to provide immediate financial, logistical, and emotional support to affected families, including those abroad.
Investigations are underway, led by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which recovered the black box on June 13. In parallel, a High-Level Committee chaired by the Union Home Secretary has been formed to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident from multiple dimensions — technical, regulatory, and operational.
All Boeing 787 aircraft in India are undergoing urgent inspections, and maintenance surveillance has been intensified by DGCA.
The Minister emphasized India’s global aviation safety reputation and assured that every possible step will be taken to prevent such tragedies. He urged the media to avoid speculation and assured full transparency as investigations unfold.
The High-Level Committee will begin deliberations on June 16 and submit its report within three months, proposing long-term reforms to enhance India’s aviation safety framework.
