Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan today released the Military Quantum Mission Policy Framework, a comprehensive policy and implementation roadmap aimed at integrating quantum technologies into the Indian Armed Forces. The framework seeks to prepare the Tri-Services for the future battlefield and achieve technological superiority in an increasingly complex security environment.
The policy focuses on the systematic induction of the four key pillars of quantum technology—Quantum Communication, Quantum Computing, Quantum Sensing and Metrology, and Quantum Materials and Devices—across the Army, Navy and Air Force. It aligns closely with the National Quantum Mission, recognising the Defence Forces as a vital stakeholder in the nation’s quantum ecosystem.
The vision document outlines the way forward for achieving synergy in the assimilation of quantum technologies, providing an indicative roadmap for policy execution and institutional integration. It aims to facilitate the incorporation of cutting-edge quantum capabilities through coordinated and joint efforts of the three Services, ensuring optimal utilisation of emerging technologies for defence applications.
Highlighting the strategic importance of quantum technologies from a defence perspective, the framework emphasises civil–military fusion, supported by dedicated governance mechanisms involving multiple government sectors. It also underlines the critical need for jointness and integration to effectively harness these niche technologies and maintain technological dominance in future warfare.
The release ceremony was attended by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, and Chief of Integrated Defence Staff Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, reflecting the unified commitment of the Armed Forces towards adopting advanced quantum capabilities.
