Move aimed at reducing stress and expanding global learning opportunities
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), in collaboration with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, is set to introduce bi-annual board exams starting from the 2026-2027 academic year. This groundbreaking initiative aims to alleviate exam-related stress for students by offering them the opportunity to appear for the exams twice a year. It is a significant step in implementing key provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP), which focuses on creating a more supportive and stress-free learning environment for children.
The CBSE will soon release a draft of the proposed changes for public consultation, allowing stakeholders to offer feedback on the new scheme. The shift to bi-annual exams aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to prioritize student well-being and create a safer, less stressful educational environment.
In addition to the changes in board exams, the CBSE has also announced plans to introduce a global curriculum for foreign schools starting in the 2026-2027 academic year. The initiative aims to make CBSE more accessible to students outside India by offering a curriculum that aligns with international standards. This curriculum will be implemented after discussions between the Ministry of External Affairs, the Department of School Education, CBSE officials, and educational bodies like NCERT, KVS, and NVS.
Pradhan stated, “The details of establishing and implementing the CBSE Global Curriculum were thoroughly discussed, and CBSE has been instructed to roll it out starting from the 2026-2027 academic year.” stated Pradhan in a tweet, further emphasizing the importance of global education for foreign students.
As for the ongoing 2025 CBSE exams, students of classes 10 and 12 are in the middle of their board exams. Class 10 students have already completed their English exam and are preparing for their Science exam, while class 12 students have finished their Physical Education exam and are gearing up for their Science and other subject tests.
