Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), in partnership with the Indian Army, has inaugurated a newly constructed underground fuel storage facility under Project Sena Sarthi, strengthening fuel security for troops deployed in forward locations across the Northern Command.
A state-of-the-art underground fuel storage system—designed to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply in high-altitude and operationally sensitive terrains—was formally commissioned as part of the joint BPCL–Indian Army logistics enhancement initiative.
The facility was dedicated in the presence of Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, Army Commander Northern Command, alongside BPCL Director (Marketing) Subhankar Sen, and senior Army officials including Lt Gen Mukesh Chadha, Director General Supplies and Transport, and Maj Gen RR Tiwari, Major General ASC, Northern Command.
Located in the Northern Command’s operational theatre, the facility is engineered to support troops stationed in forward and remote zones, where maintaining a resilient fuel supply chain is operationally critical.
The dedication took place during a high-level joint event held in the Northern Command area, marking a major milestone in defence–industry collaboration.
Project Sena Sarthi strengthens India’s defence logistics by creating a protected, efficient, and all-weather mechanism for fuel availability in the country’s most challenging terrains.
BPCL’s project team—led by Business Heads Rahul Tandon (Gas), Manoj Menon (Industrial & Commercial), and S. Kannan (Lubes)—implemented the facility through demanding geographies and tight timelines. Their efforts were formally acknowledged by the Army Commander, reinforcing BPCL’s role as a trusted energy partner to the Armed Forces.
