Ministry of Rural Development has signed an important MoU to launch and expand the ‘Insurance Sakhi Yojana’ with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), which is a leading scheme that aims to promote insurance inclusion in rural areas, while self -help groups (SHG) to strengthen women by inclusion as insurance facilities.
The initiative is a joint cooperation between the Ministry of Rural Development and the LIC of India, which targets SHG women in Gram Panchayats of India.
The scheme is an important step towards obtaining “insurance for all by 2047”, a approach expressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the widespread national goal of self -reliant India (self -sufficient India). This tries to make insurance accessible, economical and community-operating as well as to make permanent livelihood for rural women.
Under this scheme, trained SHG women will be nominated as ‘insurance stories’ at the gram panchayat level. These women will act as LIC agents, take advantage of their ground level connections to spread awareness, organize communities and provide micro insurance solutions to the rural needs. The model creates a self -sufficient loop of economic empowerment and social inclusion.

Sakhi Yojana’ is on to become a national movement, including the state government cooperation, alignment with skill development missions and extension schemes with comprehensive community participation. As rural women take charge of financial services distribution, the scheme is ready to redefine social security and women leadership in rural India.
