Air Marshal Sanjiv Ghuratia, AVSM, VSM, today took over as Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance at the Indian Air Force Headquarters. Following the assumption of charge, the Air Marshal paid homage at the National War Memorial, laying a wreath in honour of the armed forces personnel who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
Air Marshal Sanjiv Ghuratia, commissioned into the Aeronautical Engineering branch of the IAF in September 1988, brings with him 37 years of distinguished service. The appointment was assumed on September 1, 2025. Air Marshal’s appointment underscores the IAF’s emphasis on strengthening its maintenance and operational readiness capabilities, crucial for supporting both national defence and international missions.
Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Air Force Test Pilot School, Bengaluru, and Air Force Technical College, Bengaluru, Air Marshal Ghuratia also holds advanced degrees from GEC Jabalpur, BITS Pilani, Madras University, and a Doctorate from Bhopal University.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (London), Aeronautical Society of India, and Institute of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. Additionally, he is an ISO 45000 Lead Auditor and an Associate Member of the Society of Flight Test Engineers, USA.
Throughout his career, he has served in key command and staff roles within the IAF and in a United Nations Mission in Congo, where he earned commendation from the Force Commander. Prior to this appointment, he was serving as Senior Maintenance Staff Officer at HQ MC.
For his distinguished service, Air Marshal Ghuratia was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (2016) and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (2025) by the President of India.
