Aatmanirbhar Bharat: MoD inks Rs 2,500 crore contracts for NAMIS Tracked version of anti-tank weapon platform & 5,000 Light Vehicles

The Ministry of Defense has signed a contract with Armard Vehicle Corporation Limited for the purchase of the Treasaged Edition Nag Missile System (NAMIS) and about 5,000 lighter vehicles for the purchase of the Traded Edition of the Anti -Tank weapons platform and a contract with the Force Motors Limited and Mahindra & Mahindra Limited. For the convenience of armed forces, the deal costs around Rs 2,500 crore. These contracts were signed in New Delhi on March 27, 2025 under the purchase (Indian-Swadesy-Swagatically concept, developed and manufactured) category. Defense Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh was also present on the occasion.

NAMIS (TR) arms system:

The total cost of the contract has been estimated at Rs 1,801.34 crore for the purchase of NAMIS (TR) arms system developed by Defense Research and Development Laboratory of Defense Research and Development Organization. It is an important milestone in modernization of anti -tank capacity of mechanized infantry, which will increase the efficiency of the Indian Army in a wide variety of military activities.

NAMIS (TR) is one of the most sophisticated tank weapons systems against enemy armored vehicles, staining and forgetting and forgetting is the anti -tank missile and vision system, leading to increase in firepower and ambience. This weapon system has been designed to change the management of mechanized military action and provide benefits in military activities against the enemy.

Light vehicle:

These modern vehicles have been designed according to contemporary vehicle technology, with an engine of advanced power to have the ability to carry a load of up to 800 kg. This will facilitate the armed forces in all types of terrain and operating conditions.

Both these deals will increase indigenization and national defense equipment manufacturing capabilities. These projects contain immense possibilities of direct and indirect employment generation by encouraging the micro, small and medium enterprise areas through manufacturing of components and equipment. This purchase program is in line with the attitude of self -reliant India. The deal is an important initiative towards modernization of the country’s defense infrastructure and empowering indigenous industries in many ways.
