Survival in today’s battlespace is not about being fittest, but about those who adapt, transform, and position themselves & seize emerging opportunities: CDS Gen Anil Chauhan

“Survival in today’s battlefield is not only about being the fittest, but it is about those who prepare themselves to adapt, convert and receive better opportunities,” it was to say of Indian Defense Employees Head (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, who spoke to future strategic leaders at Defense Management College (CDM), Secunderabad. He was addressing officers participating in the Higher Defense Management Course (HDMC-20) to deal with the complex 21st century security scenario.

In his address, General Chauhan emphasized the importance of adaptability, flexibility and visionary leadership in the era of technological advancement, like rapidly changing global power dynamics, unconstitutional threats and artificial intelligence (AI). He said that in order to effectively deal with contemporary and emerging security crises, it is necessary to face these changes properly. The CDS spoke of the need for a holistic, nationwide strategy that promoted the collective response and described the role of the Indian armed forces as the chief in the creation of the national security strategy.

General Chauhan also shared his views on national security structure and change management, which are determined as the year of defense reforms. He deeply analyzed the ongoing change process to promote jointness, integration and harmony in the functions of the Department of Military Affairs (DMA). He highlighted aspects such as 2047, joint theory, defense and final formation of military policy development and an integrated capacity development scheme. Along with this, CDS also explained in detail the efforts made towards self-reliance (self-sufficient India).

During his visit, General Chauhan interacted with the course participants, including the Allied Nations officials, and the faculty. He also emphasized the need to promote innovation, experimentation and cooperation in the defense establishment, so that we can stay forward in a developed strategic environment. The tour is a proof of excellence in Defense Management Education of CDM and its significant contribution to shaping the future of India’s national security strategy.
