Indo-Japanese Joint Military Exercise for Indian Army departure for guardian

The Indian Army team today left for the 6th edition of India, Japan’s joint military exercise left for the Dharma Guardian. The exercise is to be held in the Eastern Fuji maneuver training area of ​​Japan from 24 February to 9 March 2025. Exercise Dharma Guardian is an annual program organized alternatively to India and Japan. The final version of the same practice was held in Rajasthan in February- March 2024.

The Indian contingent comprising 120 personnel will be represented mainly by troops from a battalion of the MADRAS Regiment along with troops from others arms and services. The Japan Ground Self Defence Force (JGSDF) contingent, also comprising similar strength, will be represented by 34th Infantry Regiment.

Aim of the exercise is to enhance interoperability between the two forces while undertaking joint urban warfare and counter-terrorism operations under UN mandate.This exercise will focus on high level of physical fitness, joint plan and joint strategic practice.

Aspects to be rehearsed will include strategic exercises, joint exercises, and disaster response strategies, which are designed to enhance operating capabilities, refine war skills and strengthen intercourse for effective joint operations.

From 14 to 17 October 2024, the army chief will further strengthen bilateral defense cooperation between Guardian India and Japan, carrying forward the speed of successful visit to Japan.

The exercise outlines the shared commitment of India and Japan towards regional security, peace and stability, furthering his shared approach of independent, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific. The practice strengthens India-Japan relations as the cornerstone of religious guardian regional cooperation, promotes strong military-to-world relations and promotes cultural understanding.

A proof of friendship, confidence and permanent bonding of cultural relations between India and Japan, the practice creates a platform for meaningful professional engagement, which highlights the unwavering commitment of the two countries for wide defense cooperation.
