General Ashok Raj Sigdel, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Nepali Army, continued his official visit to India, signifying a historic milestone in Nepal-India defence relations. On the second day, General Sigdel was awarded the prestigious Honourary Rank of General of the Indian Army, a unique tradition that exemplifies the enduring military camaraderie between the two nations.
During his visit, General Sigdel met with Shri Rajnath Singh, Hon’ble Raksha Mantri, before traveling to Pune for the next leg of his engagements.
The day’s centerpiece was the Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan, where Smt. Draupadi Murmu, Hon’ble President of India, formally conferred upon General Sigdel the Honourary Generalship of the Indian Army. This tradition, which has endured for over seven decades, serves as a powerful symbol of the robust military partnership between Nepal and India.
As part of the ceremony, General Sigdel received a new rank plate signifying his Honourary General status, a gesture reflecting mutual respect and the strengthening of defence cooperation. This recognition celebrates his exceptional leadership and contributions toward fostering deeper defence collaboration between the two armies.
Following the ceremony, General Sigdel attended a High Tea hosted at Rashtrapati Bhawan, where he engaged with dignitaries and senior officials. The event provided a valuable platform for discussions on mutual interests and avenues for enhancing bilateral defence ties.
Later in the day, General Sigdel held discussions with Shri Rajnath Singh, focusing on strategic defence issues and shared priorities. This meeting underscored the strong foundation of Nepal-India defence relations and explored opportunities for future collaboration.
The afternoon featured a Reciprocal Lunch hosted by General Sigdel at the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi. This informal gathering brought together senior officials, diplomats, and distinguished guests, fostering dialogue and reinforcing the warm bilateral relationship between the two nations.
In a symbolic act reflecting the enduring partnership between the two armies, General Sigdel planted a sapling at Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. This gesture served as a reminder of the deep-rooted ties and shared commitment to peace, stability, and cooperation.
General Sigdel departed for Pune in the evening, where he will engage in further activities as part of his official visit. The second day of his visit was marked by significant milestones, celebrating the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership between the Nepali and Indian armed forces.
