Union Water Power Minister CR Patil chaired the meeting of the 14th authority over Ganga conservation, which confirmed the government’s commitment to clean and more sustainable Ganga. The meeting emphasized an integrated, technology-operated approach for pollution control and long-term stability.
Mr. Patil highlighted the importance of geopolitical technology and real-time monitoring systems as well as the importance of timely project execution and inter-ministerial coordination. He emphasized to balance development with ecological protection, ensuring conservation efforts also supports livelihood, biodiversity and cultural heritage.
The meeting reviewed the progress of 492 Namami Gange projects with a outlay of Rs 40,121 crore in 10 states. Notable achievements include completing 307 projects worth Rs 19,478 crore, resulting in an increase in water quality and pollution control. Additionally, 3,346 MLD sewage treatment capacity and 4,543 km sewerage network were developed to prevent discharge of untreated wastewater in the river.
The Minister also assessed the implementation of environmental flow (e-flow) norms to ensure controlled water flow in the major parts of the Ganges and Yamuna and Ramganga.
A major attraction was the inauguration of the GIS layer and dashboard for wetland protection, which enables the real -time monitoring of wetlands health. The Minister emphasized the need for advanced drain maps using drone and lidar technology along with hydroelectric recharge initiatives in Ganga-Yamuna Doab.
Mr. Patil reiterated the government’s commitment to innovative technologies for river rejuvenation under Namami Gange Mission, so that clean and healthy Ganga could be ensured for future generations. The meeting was attended by major stakeholders of various ministries and state governments.
